Nursing and the Gargantuan Girl

Bust size does not determine if you, as a mother of a newborn, can breastfeed. Not at all. Motherhood is wonderful. It is a experience of utter love. As the mother of a 2 and 4 yr old, I know this. I wouldn't have my life any other way, and my life seems so much more fuller with them.

Bust size does not determine if you can breastfeed, can nurse. I have some friends who are so small breasted, without their gorgeous looks and slender hourglass, female forms, you might (I say MIGHT) mistake them as men. Though, again, probably not because they DO have shape. (Trying to save face in case one of them reads this.) A specific friend, who is small chested, has birthed, nursed and raised four darling children. And I recall them being well-fed and chubby little things when she was doing her thing.

I was quite nervous about being able to nurse my kiddos. With the issue of hardly able to control them when fully harnessed due to size, I thought how in the heck am I going to hoist and hold up a little babychild to suckle on one of my gargantuan boobs...made even bigger by the production of motherly milk.

My firstborn I worked with one of the neonatal nurses at the hospital to literally get the hang of nursing with way above-average sized breasts. She taught me the underhand/underarm breast cradle technique where I am kind've scooping my boob up from underneath, hoisting it up a bit, then able to bring baby to nipple, and controlling things so I don't pile drive my boob into the kid's head and face. I learned that a good dense but soft throw pillow is where its at as, so as to not tire out my arm, I simply slip a pillow under my boob of choice while feeding and can nurse with one hand and drink my much needed juice or water with my now-freehand. (Nursing is like the kiddo sucking your system dry...a good glass of water or two is a necessity to have near by.)

My second, my bust was even bigger than before, then got a bit bigger with another round of lactating and nursing. However, I used the same technique...and same throw pillow...to get the motherly job done.

It doesn't matter your bust size, little ones or great big gargantuan ones, you can nurse your little ones appropriately and reasonably and with great joy. Motherhood is a wonderful thing.

Have a great day and be nice to each other. Think BIG and stay positive.

Helia
